Anne Stagg

I make paintings and assemble them together in ways that attempt to capture balance and harmony in the face of the cacophony and vibration of colors and patterns that make up the individual panels. A musical instrument individually is capable of generating a limited range of sounds, but when brought together with other instruments, the possibilities are measurably increased. The resulting complexity can generate a range of results from jarring and discordant when they are out of synch or, depending on the composition, unnerving, ephemeral, melodic, delicate, powerful and beautiful. I am interested in this idea visually: in the way that one pattern and color butts up against another and alters the way we see it.
